3C

3C had a very scientific afternoon! We have been trying to discover which would be the best type of rock to use to build a dam, (in the event of us ever having to build one!). The children found that Marble would be the best type and have done lots of experiments to find this out. Ask them to tell you all about it!

'Rock' science experiment!

We picked some beautiful rhubarb from our allotment, so Miss Rushton made a lovely strawberry and rhubarb crumble with it! All the children tried some which was brilliant and some absolutely loved it!!

Rhubarb and Strawberry crumble tasting!

3C had a super time at our school Allotment yesterday. The children planted seeds to grow some carrots, potatoes and onions! We also picked some rhubarb which Miss Rushton turned into a lovely rhubarb and strawberry crumble for the class to eat!! Yummy!

Moving Creatures in Design Technology

What a great week we've had in 3C!  We have been working on a Design Technology project where we were challenged to make a creature to live on Coll, the Scottish island from the Katie Morag stories.

Our designs had to

1. Use a pneumatic system

2. Look like a creature from Coll

3. Be sturdy and not fall apart

We spent the week investigating, designing, testing, cutting, sticking, perfecting and finally...making our creatures move!

Everyone worked so hard and Mrs Cottam is so proud of the teamwork skills the children have shown.

Problem Solving in 3C

Wizard Wilfred sent a dreadful threat to 3C! He sent us 3 problems which we had to solve by playtime...or Mrs Cottam would be turned into a frog!

Luckily, using reasoning, trial and improvement, mental strategies, number patterns and pure brain power, we solved the problems!

Mrs Cottam is safe!

Coll Seabirds

Stephen Irwin, from Blackburn Museum, brought a huge selection of seabirds which we might see on Coll.

We spent time sketching and drawing the birds, paying attention to all of their beautiful details.

World Book Day!

We've had a great day thinking about books all day long!  We made hats to show our favourite books then started to look at Katie Morag stories.  Katie lives on the island of Struay, which is actually called Coll and we are comparing Coll to Blackburn in our topic work. We thought "Katie Morag delivers the mail" was so funny, especially when she fell into the water!

Thank you, 6B, for working so well with 3C and for sharing your exciting stories.  It was a pleasure to work with you!

BRING YER WELLIES!

What a fantastic day we've had.  The children were a credit to the school and we all had lots of fun!

HOMEWORK ALERT!

The deadline for completing 5 pieces (or more if you are extra keen!) of homework from our grid is Wednesday 11th February.

Which lily pad will you be on?

Viking Longboats

On Monday 2nd February, 3C made a fleet of Viking longboats.  The children were very keen to test if they would float or sink, but Mrs Cottam wasn't too sure how water tight they'd be! We worked so well together, working out how to put all the pieces together and tackling the tricky parts.  What do you think of our finished boats?

The Vikings are here!

On Monday 12th January, 3C were invaded by Vikings! Our entire day was filled with Viking activities including: bread making, soup making, weaving, writing secret messages in runes (the Viking alphabet), listening to Viking sagas and invading monasteries in an interactive game. Our day ended with Viking songs and a feast!  Phew! What an exciting day!

Emmie has found a brilliant Maths website! It is called Hit The Button.

Roman Homework!

Thank you for the amazing homework we have received so far.  I can tell that you have all worked extremely hard and that there has been brilliant support from parents and carers.

The deadline for homework is Wednesday 17th December.

Children must have completed 5 pieces of work.

Watch out, the Homework Police lady (Miss Rushton) is about!

Welcome to 3C's homepage!  We'll be adding lots of photographs, information and exciting news to our page so keep checking!

Roman Dance

We have been learning how to make a sequence of Roman dance moves.  We have even made our own shields to practise formations!

We've been invaded by Romans!

Eeeeh by eck!   Where does tha' come from?

Our mini topic to start the year off is Lancashire.

We had a very exciting visitor who showed us a traditional style of dancing called Clog Dancing.

Later that day we all got our own pair of clogs to wear and we had a try!  It was so much fun and we all did very well.  Watch out Strictly Come Dancing, 3C might enter next year!
