We are weeks into our new topic of summer 1. I cannot believe how fast the days are flying by. This terms topic is called Water Water. Everywhere. Children will be learning all about the water cycle, rivers and Ancient Egypt. This term year 4 children are very lucky in the fact we have planned and organised three trips for them. One having been to Blackburn museum, another going to Cuerden Valley Park and a final one in June to Towneley Hall in Burnley. All of 4C and half of 4ST went to Cuerden Valley this week and absolutely loved it. Luckily, the weather stayed nice and dry with the sun beaming down on us. The children carried out activities such as pond dipping, measuring the speed of the river and talking about where the river came from and what happens to the river on its way to the sea. There are some pictures of the children you will be able to look at following this information as well as pictures of April's trip to Blackburn Museum where children learnt all about Ancient Egypt and mummification.
Just a reminder 4C's indoor P.E is on Monday afternoon and our outdoor slot is on Thursday afternoon, so children will need to make sure kits are in school for these particular days.
Also, homework is handed out on the Monday and is due back in on the Friday. Not all children are completing these tasks and therefore I am asking for a big push for the rest of the academic year along with children reading - where reading records need to be signed and learning times tables. The saying goes 'practice makes perfect.'
We are now fast approaching the end of half term for Spring. There aren't enough hours in the day. It has been a very busy few weeks and we have had a lot to get through. Topic for this term has been Food glorious food and in Science we have been concentrating on our teeth and the digestive system. We carried out an investigation whereby 3 groups all tested a different liquid poured over eggs, which acted as our tooth enamel. This was to test the decay in our teeth. See photographs below.
We are concentrating on presentation across the curriculum and have set some non - negotiables for pupils to concentrate on during all lessons.
Welcome back after a long summers break. I hope you have all had a lovely summer and plenty of rest ready to begin another hard working half term. This years topic is called 'Sparks Might Fly'. This topic is mainly Science based where we will be looking at electricity and how we can keep safe from electric appliances. On Friday 8th September, base 4 had a visitor in school introducing our topic of Electricity. Children were shown how to connect various circuits together using crocodile wires, motors, light bulbs and buzzers. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Pictures to follow.
Can I just remind everybody that Homework is given out on Monday and should be returned on Friday. It is in a grid format this year and children are expected to complete one activity on the grid per week. Along with this, children should be practising spellings and their timestables, as well as reading their reading book. These also need to be brought in everyday signed by parents/carers.
P.E. takes place on a Monday afternoon (Indoor) and a Thursday afternoon (outdoor) so P.E kits need to be in school on those days.
I am really looking forward teaching in year 4 and all the fun we will have on the way. If you have any problems do not hesitate to come into school and ask for me at the office.
