Home Reading

Children are provided a reading book from the school selection to read at home. However, children  are welcome to choose an alternative book from home.

Although there isn't a minimum requirement that children need to read per week, we DO encourage children to read as often as they can to reach our 5 times per week class target.

Every time a section of a book is read, it must be recorded in the reading record, including the number of pages read (eg, p73-91). It also MUST be signed.  Children CAN sign their own reading record to promote independent reading. However, understanding will be checked through a series of questions when reading records are checked.

Reading books are checked every Tuesday and Thursday. During this time the amount of reading a child has done is noted. This opportunity will also provide chn a chance to change their book (once they've finished the book) or to answer some questions if they've opted to sign the book themselves.

If any child or parent requires a new home reading record, just ask myself or Mrs Riley!
