Wednesday, 12th June - Day 1:
The children arrived safely at Lanehead and immediately began their stay with a lovely walk through the woods where they foraged for a feast, saw two huge owls swoop right in front of them and learnt the Cumbrian word for streams which is 'beck'. At teatime, the children were treated to a tasty curry which Miss Mcneil reports was enjoyed by all!
As night time came, the boys were very tired and went to sleep very quickly; some of the girls took a little longer as the excitement of their first night on residential got the better of them - we're sure they'll be too tired after tomorrow's visit to Brantwood to stay awake for long!
Thursday, 13th June
What a wonderful, art-filled day we have had today! We have worked with a professional artist to produce detailed botanical drawings and paintings using watercolour. We have also produced abstract artwork in acrylics which the children really loved doing. After that, we visited Ruskin's house at Brantwood and explored the nearby wooded areas where we found Ruskin's chair, which he sat in to inspire his artwork, and saw his cottage garden in which we were able to taste freshly-grown mint and chives.
Back at the house, we had a barbeque for tea which was a huge success with the children! Tomorrow, we are looking forward to our gondola ride (which had to be postponed on Wednesday due to poor weather) and eating ice-cream to round off our last day.
The children are due back at school around 4pm - if our arrival times looks to be significantly different to this, we will contact parents to let them know.
