Thursday, 4th March 2021.

Hi everyone and a very happy World Book Day to you all! Don't forget, we will be having a Zoom meeting this morning at 9am to talk about what we will be doing today to mark the event. I have sent you all an invite to the meeting through Purple Mash. Don't forget, we are running our Design a Spud competition today so get yourself a potato and turn it into your favourite book character! Please see below for details about what we will be doing today. blush

Hi everyone! I hope you're all well today. I popped into school yesterday and it was so lovely to see some of you - I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday! In today's lesson, we will be continuing our revision of apostrophes, this time looking at how we would use apostrophes to show singular possession. Please make sure you watch my video lesson before attempting the task on Purple Mash.

Today in maths, we will be using everything we learned about find the area of rectangles and compound shapes yesterday to help us solve some problems. As always, please make sure you watch today's video lesson before completing your task.

English:

We are continuing our work on The Eye of the Storm, this time using everything we learned about personification in yesterday's lesson to help us write a description of the storm. Please watch today's video lesson before completing the task.

PSHE:

Today in PSHE, we are learning all about being healthy and avoiding body 'villains'. Please watch Miss Connelly's lesson before completing today's task.

Hi everyone - happy March! We're now down to the last few days of remote learning before we're all back together again on the 8th March - I can't wait to see you all again! Even though this is the last week of home learning, please try to complete as many of your tasks as possible; the more work you complete now, the easier it will be when you get back to school. blush

Grammar:

This week in grammar, we will be revising apostrophes, starting with how we use apostrophes in contractions. Please watch today's video lesson carefully before completing the tasks.

Maths:

In maths, we are starting work on finding the areas of 2D shapes, including rectangles, compound shapes and triangles. Please watch today's video lesson on finding the areas of rectangles and compound shapes before having a go at the tasks I have set for you on Purple Mash.

English:

In today's English lesson, we will be continuing our work on The Eye of the storm. In today's lesson, we will be learning how to use personification to describe an event. Please make sure you watch today's video lesson carefully before completing the task on Purple Mash.

Science:

In today's science lesson, we will be continuing to look at classification, focusing particularly on vertebrates and invertebrates. As always, please make sure you watch Miss Connelly's lesson carefully before having a go at the task on Purple Mash.

Friday, 26th February 2021.

Hi everyone - we've made it to the end of the week! Well done to all those of you who are really persevering with your home learning. Unfortunately, we'll have to have our Zoom meeting on Monday next week as I have quite a few meetings booked in today, however, we will be having an extra zoom meeting next week for World Book Day, which will take place on Thursday, so look out for information coming on that! I will also send the Zoom link through your Purple Mash email and to your parents as usual. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend! blush

In today's maths lesson, we will be recapping everything we have learned about BIDMAS this week and in your task, you will be completing an assessment in the form of reasoning problems.

English:

Today in English, we will be continuing our work on Eye of the Storm and using time adverbials to signal the passage of time in a text and act as cohesive devices. We will be writing a section of a ship's log to help us with this.

Topic:

Miss Connelly will be setting a research-based task for you to complete and don't forget to have a look at the PE suggestions Mr Crowther has put on our class web page and to have a go at three of those.

Hi everyone and a very happy Thursday! I spoke to a few of you yesterday and I know that the further into lockdown we go, the harder it is to feel motivated to complete your online learning. Please stick with it though - we have less than two weeks until we're all back together in the classroom again! Miss Connelly tells me that some of you had problems accessing yesterday's video and a few have asked for extra time to complete the task. Miss Connelly has therefore re-recorded the video for today and extended the amount of time you have to complete the task.

Today in maths, we will be problem solving and using BIDMAS to help us with this. I will be going through your independent tasks in today's lesson so please make sure you watch it carefully before attempting the tasks.

English:

In today's lesson, we will be returning to the work we did on semi-colons in grammar a few weeks ago and using our knowledge to write sentences which show how the main character of the story is feeling. Please make sure you watch today's video lesson carefully before attempting the task.

History:

Today in history, we will be starting work on the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and the Normans. Please watch the video lesson on Anglo-Saxon life and complete the non-chronological report.

Hi everyone! A huge well done to all those children who completed their online learning yesterday. As we get closer to being together again at school, please make sure you are keeping up with your home learning as we will be building on all the remote learning we have been doing as soon as we return. In today's English lesson, we will be working on developing a character profile focusing on showing the character's appearance and personality instead of just describing them. Please watch today's video lesson carefully before attempting the task.

PSHE:

We will be starting a new unit of work today in PSHE called 'Healthy Me'. The unit focuses on the importance of staying healthy - both physically and mentally - and in today's lesson, you will be asked to write a letter to another Year 6 child advising them of how to make better choices around a given situation. Please make sure you watch Miss Connelly's video lesson before completing the task.

Hi everyone! Welcome back after what I hope has been a lovely half term for you and your families. Science:

We are starting a new unit of work in science this week on animals. Please watch Miss Connelly's video lesson where you will be asked to sort a variety of animals into different groups and give reasons for your choices.

Hi everyone and happy Thursday! Please see below for today's learning. I have noticed that lots of you are completing the guided reading and grammar tasks but lots of you aren't bothering with the English, Maths or Topic tasks. It is absolutely essential that you complete EVERY lesson and task EVERY day as we are working on the year 6 curriculum and if you don't complete a task, you have missed that learning. Please make sure you all complete all of today's tasks. blush

Hi everyone! Today is Safer Internet Day and I have created a new section to our class web page where you can find a lesson on internet safety as well as links to a quiz for you to test your knowledge of online safety and a video for you to watch. Please do get involved and take a look at all of these resources.

I have noticed that an increasing amount of children are attempting the tasks on Purple Mash without watching my video lessons first. You MUST make sure you are watching the lessons otherwise attempting the tasks without the necessary learning first is pointless. We only have four days left until the half term holiday - please put lots of effort into completing your tasks this week. blush

Hi everyone and a very happy Monday! This week is our last week of remote learning before half term next week so let's try to make some extra effort for the final push this week! I have set your DT lesson for today instead of Tuesday due to the fact that tomorrow is Safer Internet Day and we are going to complete some work around online safety. English:

In today's English lesson, we will be learning how to expand our amplifications into a full flashback sequence. Please don't worry if you haven't completed last week's amplification task - you can still complete the learning for today. Please make sure you watch my video lesson carefully before attempting the written task.

DT:

Today's lesson will be the last in our Eatwell Plate unit of work. Please make sure you watch my video lesson carefully before attempting the task. The lesson involves you making the meal you have written the recipe for. If you are able to make the meal, please follow my safety instructions in the lesson carefully. If you can't make the meal, please complete the visual recipe task that I have set on Purple Mash. You have one week to complete either activity.

Hi everyone! Thankyou for all of the work you handed in yesterday. I have noticed that some people are starting to hand work in at night time. Please make sure you are completing work in school hours. I am not able to mark work straightaway at night time and you will therefore not get any feedback before the next lesson. Hi everyone - well done for making it to Friday! laugh This week has certainly been a learning curve for all of us - me included! I am however extremely proud of all of you for putting so much effort into your online learning - I know it hasn't been easy. I'm always proud of every one of you but this week has shown me just what a truly amazing class I have! After you have completed your learning, I would like you to put your laptops away and then pick up a book, watch TV, go for a walk, spend time with your family or do whatever else makes you feel happy and relaxed - you've earned it! In today's English lesson, we are gathering together all of our learning from this week and using it to write our own short story based on the film, 'Little Freak'. Please watch my online lesson first where I carry out a modelled write showing how to turn two sections of yesterday's planner into the first two sections of the story. Then, have a go at writing your own story using the template I have set on Purple Mash. Don't forget to click the green tick to show the success criteria!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all keeping safe and well - I'm really missing seeing you all and hope that we can all get together very soon!

As promised, here is the overview of today's learning:

Grammar:

This week, we are looking at modal verbs. I have uploaded a video lesson to Purple Mash (in the 2Dos section). Watch the lesson first and then have a good at the worksheet I have made to go with it.

Reading:

I have set you all a chapter of a book to read and some comprehension questions based on that chapter. You all have different books depending on where you're up to with your learning.

Maths:

Because most of you really struggled with Friday's maths task, I have uploaded a video lesson on converting fractions to decimals and have given you worksheets to complete based on the lesson. The worksheets are different depending on where you are with your learning.

English:

I have uploaded a video (see below). We will be using this video for all our learning in English this week so please be sure to watch it a few times. I have given you a character profile to complete which you can find on Purple Mash.

PSHE:

I have given you a diary entry to complete on Purple Mash based on your thoughts and feelings about going back to remote learning. Please take your time with this and don't rush - this should be a one hour lesson.
