Year 6 Team Building Day

Thursday 9th September

We wanted to support children with their health and well being after a difficult few years.  We also wanted children in Year 6 to form a close bond and learn to work together and co-operate to solve problems.

In conjunction with Sporting NRG, we organised a exciting full day of activities at Canalside in Mill Hill, not far from school.  This area has been transformed in to a real gem by the Scouting organisation who have provided a real, long term asset for the local community.  The activities we planned meant the children were given opportunities to exchange ideas and think creatively.  They also developed their ability to communicate and improve their listening skills.   Importantly, the day helped to build their self-esteem so that they start to aim high and achieve their best.  This way our children will get a solid start to Year 6 so that they get the most from their final year at Meadowhead Junior School. The day was free to parents/carers, fully funded by school as part of the curriculum.

Activities included two problem solving activities, canoeing and raft building on the canal, bush-craft and a special Harry Potter trail involving orienteering skills.

It was a tremendous and truly successful day and a big thank you must go to the Year 6 staff who fully embraced the event along the staff from Sporting NRG.
